Snow Much Fun!

Mrs. Oberts participated in Towanda Elementary School’s “Winter Activity Day” on Friday, December 21. Every group had the opportunity to enjoy Red & Lulu by Matt Tavares. Here are some of the other library books she showcased:

  • The Story of Snow: The Science of Winter’s Wonder by Mark Cassino
  • The Snow Show by Carolyn Fisher
  • Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
  • Secrets of Winter: A Shine-a-Light Book by Carron Brown & Georgina Tee (…ask your child why a flashlight is needed!)
  • Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak

Since all of these titles featured “snow,” Mrs. Oberts also introduced students to an interactive, online site for creating snowflakes. Students were directed to ask a grown-up for permission prior to accessing the site from home: SnowDays

SnowDays is a site that does not require students to enter personal information to explore its functions. We reviewed the importance of using only a first name/last initial, entering a city/state as a location, and not including an email address. Finally, we discovered how to locate other students’ creations by using the “location search” feature.
